Celebrations in Nigeria
To celebrate the opening of the Bacita junction health center and the one year anniversary of the Hygeia Community Health Plan (the first Health Insurance Fund program) various festivities were organized in Kwara State
On 24th January 2008 the First Lady of the Kwara State Governor opened the Resource Access Unit in the centre of a large community which will benefit members of the Health Insurance Fund program. The clinic was built and equipped by the Wellbeing Foundation in close collaboration with the Hygeia Community Health Plan, with funds from the HIF. The clinic is one of the three primary health care centres for the program in Kwara State.

The opening by the First Lady and Prof. Elebute (Hygeia HMO) was attended by Government officials, the HCHP and PharmAccess’ representative in Nigera, Hanneke Peeters. Hundreds of community members participated in the celebrations, which included colourful performances of traditional dance and music and well attended free health screenings.

The next day, the Emir of Shonga Emirate hosted the first year anniversary of the HIF program in Kwara State. The festivities took place on the Shonga village square in front of the Emir’s palace. Hundreds of community members witnessed traditional dance, music, spiritual masquerade and speeches from traditional and government leaders of Kwara State. They expressed their appreciation for the commitment and successful results of the efforts of the Dutch Ministry, the HIF and PharmAccess.
